Shorter and Loughlin Named All American
Post season honors continue to roll in for the Anoka Ramsey Women’s basketball team. Tamarra Shorter and Maria Loughlin have been named to the NJCAA Division III All American team for their play this past season.
Shorter, a sophomore from Arden Hills, MN and Osseo High School was named first team All American. She averaged 13.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.8 steals per game this year for the nationally ranked Golden Rams while shooting 47.4 % from the field. “Tamarra is probably the most athletic player we have had at Anoka Ramsey in my six years here” said ARCC Head Coach Dave DeWitt. “She worked hard to improve her fundamentals and skill level as well as her understanding of the game.”
Loughlin, a freshman from Rogers, MN and Rogers High School earned 2nd team All American honors. She averaged 15.1 points while shooting 39% from outside the 3 point line. She also averaged 2.6 steals and 4 rebounds per game. “Coming into the year, we told Maria she needed to become a more consistent perimeter shooter” commented Coach DeWitt. “She worked hard to accomplish that and exceeded our expectations. She was likely our most consistent player all year.”
The Golden Rams finished the year with a 29-3 record advancing the NJCAA National tournament where they finished 3rd.
Anoka Ramsey Community College is a Division III Junior College located in Coon Rapids, MN and competes in the Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference. They have won 7 National Championships, the most recent in 2011 and been to the National tournament 12 times in the past 19 years.
