Next Minnesota Potters: Sharing the Fire Workshop, Feb. 24

January 26, 2012

As part of the Minnesota State Arts Board grant received by Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the next Minnesota Potters: Sharing the Fire workshop, featuring potters Linda Christianson and Jil Franke will be hosted at Normandale Community College Theatre, Feb. 24.

Christianson’s work has been reviewed in “Clay Times” and “Ceramics Monthly” and is in collections of the Weisman Art Museum and Minnesota Historical Society. She has received several McKnight Fellowships, a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

Franke’s work is shown in galleries across the country and has been included in exhibitions in Taipei, Taiwan and Australia. She has been featured in “Ceramics Monthly”, “Clay Times”, and the books “500 Cups” and “Tableware In Clay From Studio And Workshop”. She is a regular guest artist at Linda Christianson’s studio during the annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour.

Through the efforts of Anoka-Ramsey Art Faculty member Mark Lambert, Anoka-Ramsey Community College was a fiscal year 2011 recipient of a Folk and Traditional Arts grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity was funded, in part, by the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota, Nov.4, 2008.

Lambert recently received notice of a second grant for nearly $50,000 to bring the exhibition and documentary on tour to four outside locations including: Winona State University, MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Grand Marais Art Colony and Bemidji State University.

Details about the traveling exhibition, artist workshops and documentary showings in greater Minnesota will be publicized as soon as they are scheduled.
