The combined certified nurse assistant (CNA) and home health aide (HHA) course is a State approved program. By enrolling this program, you will:
- learn basic nursing skills, including how to read and record a client's vital signs and how to care for individuals in nursing homes, hospices, rehabilitation facilities, convalescent homes, hospitals and private homes
- be supervised and guided by a registered nurse while practicing in the laboratory and clinical settings
- be prepared to take the state nursing assistant test required for employment in long-term care facilities throughout Minnesota
Prerequisites:
- Register for a separate orientation session to receive your materials and other important information, and complete your background check.
- Take the Acuplacer test: Students will need to take the reading comprehension portion only. Testing available through the Cambridge (763-433-1980) and Coon Rapids Campus (763-433-1180),
Check for Days and Times.
- Mantoux Test: Must be completed within 90 days of the last day of clinical dates. Can be completed at MinuteClinics and some Super Target stores and should be brought to orientation.
- Books Recommended: Nursing Assistant: A Nursing Process Approach - BASICS, Barbara Hegner, Barbara Acello, Esther Caldwell. Optional - Student Workbook and On-the-Job Reference. Books are available through the Cambridge and Coon Rapids Bookstore.
- Required Clothing for class and clinical visits: Scrub tops and pants - solid dark blue, white shoes, watch with a second hand. Optional: White button-down sweater-allowed (no hoodies).
- Background check will be done during the orientation session required before your course begins. Bring identification with you to orientation.
After successfully completing your course, you are responsible for registering and paying for the CNA/HHA state exam. |
