The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Two Rivers Reading Series welcomes author Geoff Herbach for a free reading and questions, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Coon Rapids Campus Legacy Room.
Herbach will read from his first novel, “The Miracle of Letters of T. Rimberg."
“As a novelist, Geoff Herbach is adept at shifting his prose smoothly between what’s hilarious and serious as he explores the inner struggles of his conflicted protagonist, T. Rimberg,” says Anoka-Ramsey English Faculty member, Paige Riehl. “Through Rimberg’s series of suicide letters, sent to everyone from family members to Madonna to Vincent Van Gogh as Rimberg tramps across Europe in search of his father, Herbach confidently delves into the complexities of familial relationships and life.”
Herbach, an adjunct English Faculty member at Anoka-Ramsey, co-founded The Lit 6 Project, a group dedicated to bringing literary storytelling to broader audiences, and he wrote and performed in “The Electric Arc Radio Show,” a literary tragi-comedy, which aired on Minnesota Public Radio. Herbach is also one of three authors of the original musical, “Don't Crush Our Heart.
Currently, Herbach is writing for "Radio Happy Hour," a live comedy show that runs monthly at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City; writing and acting in the children’s television project, "Gretta the Boat Girl;" and writing and hosting, "The Block," a new comedy/variety show that begins its run in February at The Ritz Theater in Minneapolis.
“Herbach’s writing is witty, surprising and moving,” adds Riehl. “He is an animated and engaging reader who will prove interesting to both those who have read his novel and those who will want to read it after attending the event.”
The event is part of the Two Rivers Reading series hosted by the Anoka-Ramsey English Department. The series, now in its 12th year, is intended to create a common book experience for students and strengthen the academic community. Many students have never met an author before. This experience of reading a book, then interacting with the author deepens and strengthens their relationship with the book.
